Manchester United have initiated contact with Sevilla to gather further details on highly-rated defender Juanlu Sanchez.

The 21-year-old, who was instrumental in Spain's gold-medal victory at the Paris Olympics, caught attention with his standout performances, including a thrilling 5-3 win against hosts France in the final.

A product of Sevilla’s youth academy, Juanlu primarily plays as a right-back but is also comfortable in more advanced roles on the right side or even in central midfield.

Impressed by his display throughout the tournament, Manchester United closely monitored his progress, leading an official from Old Trafford to reach out to Sevilla’s sporting director, Victor Orta.

According to ABC Sevilla, while no formal offer has been made, United's interest in the versatile defender is genuine.

With Dan Ashworth now steering United’s recruitment strategy under the new INEOS ownership, the club is placing a strong emphasis on securing emerging talent, and Juanlu appears to fit their profile.

Although his contract runs until 2026, Sevilla may be compelled to entertain offers for the adaptable player if a new agreement isn’t reached before he enters the final year of his deal next summer.

Previously, La Liga side Osasuna and Premier League club Brighton were linked with Juanlu during the last winter transfer window, but no transfer materialized.

Reports indicate his release clause has risen to €25 million (£21.1m) as of January.

Juanlu has already played in all four of Sevilla’s league matches this season, scoring in their 2-2 opener against Las Palmas, where he played in midfield. Following that match, Sevilla coach Garcia Pimienta praised his performance.
