Tottenham Hotspur's vice-captain Cristian Romero reportedly attracted interest from three of Europe’s top football clubs during the summer transfer window.

Romero joined Spurs in August 2021 for £42 million and has since made 101 appearances for the London-based team. Manager Ange Postecoglou holds him in high regard.

According to report, Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain all inquired about Romero over the summer, but Tottenham made it clear that he was not available for transfer.

Had Manchester United secured Romero, he could have formed a defensive partnership with his fellow Argentina teammate, Lisandro Martinez.

Instead, Erik ten Hag reinforced his defense by signing Leny Yoro from Lille, along with Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich.

Paris Saint-Germain, on the other hand, bolstered their backline by acquiring Ecuadorian center-back Willian Pacho from Eintracht Frankfurt for around £34 million.

Real Madrid did not bring in any new defenders, though Jesus Vallejo returned from his loan at Granada.

The TyC report suggests that interest in Romero may resurface next summer, especially if his contract situation changes, as he will have two years left on his deal by then, unless he extends his contract. His current contract runs until June 2027.

Romero is currently on international duty with Argentina, having played the full 90 minutes in a 3-0 victory over Chile on Friday.
